Well, it is that time of year! Now that free agency has settled down, it is fair game to start to assess the needs of the Dallas Cowboys. I know it will sound weird after a really tumultuous season, but when looking at the Cowboys roster, there are no glaring NEEDS. Barring injuries, the roster has quality players at most, if not all positions. But, like all teams, there is a big need for depth and youth. Depth helps you with injuries or surprise drops in production. Youth helps with your salary cap. So, with all that in mind, let’s party! Mock draft below. I have many comments about this after you review.
So, I ran about 10 mock drafts and settled on this one for a few reasons. First, it seemed the most realistic. I had one model allowing me to take Calvin Ridley in the second round…not happening. Second, I think it gave a decent representation of lining up to fill some positions the Cowboys will focus on (with one surprise that I don’t think they have the guts to do and one pick I think is a longshot).
Let’s look at each pick:
This is not done to offer a prediction of what will happen for the Cowboys in a few weeks. I expect some trade-ups (maybe even a trade down) because this team does not need 10 draft picks showing up in Oxnard. I expect the Cowboys to draft 6 players, maybe 7. I could also see them moving up in the first or second round to get “their guy.” This team believes they are close to contending for a Super Bowl and a few key draft picks might put them in a position to do just that. All eyes will be on Dallas, TX for the draft and let’s throw in a few prayers (can’t hurt right?) that we get some day one starters once the weekend is over.
