It may be too early to tell, but I believe we found a great football player in Anthony Brown (Or “Lockdown Brown” as I like to call him), and we got him in the 6th round of the 2016 NFL Draft. That draft class may arguably go down as the best in Dallas Cowboys history. We got Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott, Maliek Collins, and Anthony Brown who all had really good rookie seasons. Also, Charles Tapper has a lot of potential and Jaylon Smith is finally healthy and ready for next year. Hidden under the rookie spotlight of Zeke and Dak is Anthony Brown and the Cowboys got a diamond in the rough with him.
Brown wouldn’t have even gotten the chance to play this season if it weren’t for the injury to Orlando Scandrick. That injury was almost a blessing in disguise because we got to see Brown come into his own. Anthony Brown had a great rookie season. Yes, the Cowboys defense needs major improvements but I believe Anthony Brown will be a key piece to this defense going forward.
Lockdown Brown ended the season with 55 total tackles (40 solo, 15 assisted), 1 forced fumble, and 1 key interception. I remember Brown’s interception like it was yesterday. It was in the game that we lost 7-10 to the Giants but the Brown interception gave the Cowboys offense the ball back when New York was driving. Although we ended up losing that game, it showed that when the game is on the line, Lockdown Brown is who you want on the field. Another great game from Brown that I remember was the Week 6 game in Green Bay. Anthony totaled 11 tackles (10 solo, 1 assisted) in the Cowboys 30-16 win over the Packers.
The defense in Dallas certainly is missing a few key pieces, but Anthony Brown is not one of those missing pieces. He had a great rookie season and showed CowboysNation a glimpse into what he’s capable of in the future. I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly excited to watch Lockdown Brown get even better next season.
