By Dane HowellCowboys defensive back Xavier Woods has shown a lot of potential in the last two games that he has had a role in. In the last two matchups, he has made appearances at SS, FS, and slot CB. Woods has proved that he has what it takes to play a very important role in the Dallas defense. He has shown prominent role the defense with the way he carries himself on the field by dominate tackling and taking good quality routes to the ball carrier. In the Dallas Cowboys defensive scheme, the DBs HAVE to be able to tackle and that is what the Cowboys have been struggling with lately as the Cowboys defense has raked up a whopping 15+ missed tackles in each of the last 2 games. That is a very painful stat to look at, but it hurts a little less when you see that up and coming rookie Xavier Woods hasn’t missed a tackle on defense yet. With the mass amount of injuries in the secondary [6 out of 10] , this is where a healthy, young, and talented Xavier Woods steps in. In the last 2 games, Woods has had to step in and play major role in the slot CB position. He has gotten 5 tackles in the last 2 games but don’t let the numbers fool you, he has been doing his job and then some. He has a couple of pass deflections and run fits in the last 2 games. He also only allows a reception every 12 snaps thrown his way. It is safe to say that we can begin to expect a lot more from rookie DB Xavier Woods in the future to come. He is young, a ball hawk, a superb tackler, and bright light for the future of the Cowboys defense. If I had any say, he would be seeing a lot more reps on the defense, but Marinelli will not have much of a choice but to play him with the amount of injuries in the Cowboys secondary.
