By Adam CollinsFrom a high school standout at Pickerington High School Central in Columbus, Ohio to standout in his senior year at the University of Michigan, Taco Charlton now finds himself on arguably the biggest stage in football with the Dallas Cowboys. Because of the depth the Wolverines had at the DE position in the last couple of years, Taco didn’t fully start until the end of his Junior year and then he played his entire senior season. He’s a huge body for DE, standing at 6’6” and weighing 273 lbs. A big body who can effectively rush the passer is exactly what the Dallas Cowboys are in need of.
Many people were disappointed with the pick and I understand due to some other players on the board, but let’s give Taco a chance. Jerry jones has been very successful with his first round selections over the years (Dez Bryant ’10, Tyron Smith ’11, Travis Frederick ’12, Zach Martin ’13, Byron Jones ’14, Ezekiel Elliott ’15) so let’s not doubt our owner. Taco has the potential and size to be really good and his stats last year back it all up. In the 2016 college football season alone, Taco totaled 40 tackles and 10 sacks. He also finished 8th in the Big Ten Conference with 14 tackles for loss. In his career at UM, Taco had 91 tackles (28 TFL), 1 FF, and 19 sacks. A guy who can get to the quarterback and get in the backfield to get the running back is exactly what we need, and it’s what we got. To all the people unhappy with this pick, I ask that you give Taco a fair chance because I believe he’s going to be a star for the Dallas Cowboys. He’s a plug-in and play guy right away and should have an instant impact on our struggling defense. I’m very excited about this pick and you should be too. IT’S TACO TIME!
