By Adam CollinsBenson Mayowa has had a very shaky start to his young career. Mayowa has played for three different teams in just four seasons. From Seattle, to Oakland, to Dallas last season. Jerry Jones took a chance on this 25 year old and I think it paid off.
All of Mayowa’s numbers were up in 2016 from his previous three seasons in the NFL. Benson totaled 25 tackles (15 total, 10 assists), 1 forced fumble, and 6.0 sacks. Mayowa had a great redemption season at defensive end for the Cowboys. He filled in a spot where the Cowboys were in need last season and I think he did a great job. It is clear that DE is a spot of need for Dallas but I see a future with Mayowa. He had a great season and I think there is more to come from this young 25 year old. Benson Mayowa didn’t get as much credit as he deserves and neither did the defense as a whole. Yes, the Cowboys defense struggled to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks last season, but they were great against the run (#1 in the NFL, in fact). Also, Mayowa lead the team in sacks with 6.0 so if you’re going to argue that we need to replace him, maybe you should rethink that because he was our best at rushing the passer in 2016.
