By Archie Nino IIITis the season to be jolly. No this isn't Christmas however, but I guess it's close enough. Friday marked day 1 of the Rookie Minicamp where the Star in Frisco played host to the rookie draft class, select veterans, as well newcomers Jaylon Smith, Chaz Green, and a mini platoon of undrafted players. While this is NOT the start of football activity it is fascinating to see how the 2018 version of the Cowboys roster will shape up.
Most of the football aspect spent on day 1 will feature extensive individual drills and plenty of classwork allowing the freshmen to once again be reacquainted with the game they love. Let's not forget how long some of the rookies have been out of the football environment and therefore some out of football shape. This slow build shouldn't be surprising as Dallas has chose this approach in recent memory. Costly injuries are avoided this way and provides the coaching staff with extra information on select players. May 23 is the official start of OTAs (Organized Team Activities ). The Dallas Cowboys have signed 8 of their 9 draft picks. DE Taco Charlton, CB Chidobe Awuize, WR Ryan Switzer, S Xavier Woods, CB Marquez White, WR Noah Brown, DL Joey Ivie, and DL Jordan Carell. The lone unsigned rookie is CB Jourdan Lewis. Over the next few days the future of the Dallas Cowboys will descend upon the field for workouts, meetings and practices in hopes of earning not just playing time, not just reps, but the chance to finally put the Cowboys Blue Star on what would otherwise be a plain grey helmet. Til next time #CowboysNation
