It was a long season for the Dallas Cowboys in 2017, a season that most fans would call very disappointing. After being just a year removed from going 13-3 and being the #1 seed in the NFC going into the playoffs, dealing with injuries and suspensions the Cowboys finished 9-7 and just missing the playoffs, but let me tell you why it wasn’t all that disappointing.

We learned a lot about the Dallas Cowboys this year that will actually be able to aid the front office and the team moving forward.

Starting with the secondary, we have life. The young members of the secondary showed us a LOT of potential during this season. Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis had many moments this year that flashed their potential and I can tell you it's been a long time since the cowboys have been excited about young defensive backs. Safeties Xavier Woods and Kavon Frazier also burst onto the scene in 2017, giving fans the hope that moving forward we can have a young, talented, tough secondary.

DeMarcus Lawrence has captured Boys fans hearts with the absolutely incredible season that he had in 2017. Tank came into this season with just 9 total sacks.  He finished this season with 23.5 sacks giving him 14.5 on the season, in which he finished tied for 2nd place among the league in sacks. DeMarcus Lawrence is an unrestricted free agent after this season and I can pretty much guarantee that Cowboys fans are willing to help pay him the money he deserves if that's what it takes.

Last thing we learned in 2017, was something that we already knew, Ezekiel Elliott is very very good at football. Zeke dealt with a lot of issues off the field in 2017, and while getting suspended for 6 games Zeke still managed to have 1252 yards from scrimmage and  9 total touchdowns. He still managed to place top 10 among RBs in yards from scrimmage despite missing 6 GAMES. If that doesn’t tell you how talented and special this kid is, I’m sure his 2018 season will.

2017 was a down year, but the Dallas Cowboys have some hope and direction going into 2018.
