The boys down in Dallas are in desperate need of some help on the defensive side of the ball. The Cowboys finished 26th in pass defense with only 9 interceptions throughout. They need to look into adding depth at the cornerback position if they want to repeat as NFC regular season champs. The 2017 NFL draft is the perfect reboot for the Cowboys as there are numerous players in the draft that can rejuvenate their defense and spark a championship run next season.

  • Option 1: Jalen Tabor CB Florida 9 ( 6’ 201lbs)

The numbers are great on Tabor. He has tremendous on-ball skills that would immediately make a difference for the Cowboys. Last season at Florida he had 33 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 6 pass deflections. Tabor has outstanding speed and athleticism but he has a downfall. At the beginning of last season Jalen got in a fight with one of his teammates which earned him a suspension. This may cause the Cowboys to pass on him as they are dealing with discipline issues with another young talent already.
  • Option 2: Quincy Wilson CB Florida (6’1” 203lbs)
Wilson is currently the second ranked corner in the draft but if the Cowboys wanted to trade up this would be an excellent addition. Wilson racked up 33 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 6 pass breakups in his last year with Florida. Quincy has immense speed and can match up nicely against the bigger wideouts that tend to do work on the Cowboys.
  • Option 3: Sidney Jones CB Washington ( 6’ 180lbs)
Sidney had a stellar season that helped anchor the Huskies to a College Football Playoff spot. Jones finished the season with 39 tackle, 3 interceptions, 6 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles.

First Round Selection: Sidney Jones

The Cowboys could look to many spots in the second round, but if they want to become even more deadly on offense they should look to upgrade their wide receiver core. The perfect selection for them at pick 60 is Malachai Richardson. Richardson is the perfect size at 6’3” 190 to be a sidekick to Dez. His numbers aren’t great because of the poor QB play at LSU last season, but with other successful WRs from LSU in the league (Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry) the Cowboys should take Malachai.
