The way that this particular mock draft will be done is a combination of what I believe the organization should do, as well as what I believe they will do. The 2017 draft class is one that fits perfectly for what the Cowboys need based on the roster holes. It is extremely deep at three spots, and those three spots will be incorporated into this first mock draft. The positions are EDGE DB, and WR’s. Let’s get started!

Round 1 Pick 28: Charles Harris EDGE Mizzou

Charles Harris is my crush in this year’s draft. When watching tape on Harris he shows exceptional explosion off the snap, which leads to many advantages for him on the edge. He has a distinct ability to find his way into the backfield with urgency. His best trait is his ability to get after the opposing teams QB, as well as racking up tackles for losses. Overall, Harris is the player that this up and coming Cowboys defense needs to snag in the first to put them over the edge.

Round 2 Pick 60: Chad Hansen WR CAL

Are some of you asking yourselves, “Who?” You won’t be for long folks; Hansen is the real deal. He measures out at 6’2 195lbs, which is good enough size to replace Terrance Williams at the number 2 WR spot. Hansen has one of the best set of hands in the draft, and shows great consistency in his ability to get open no matter what level of the field that he is going to. He needs to clean up different aspects of his game, but if he does he can become a legitimate threat to opposing defenses.

Round 3: Chidobe Awuzie CB Colorado

Awuzie is a player who can come in right away and compete for quality playing time. That is because of his natural ability at the position. He is capable of playing press and getting the opposing WR off his route, as well as the ability to play aggressively on the ball. Another extremely important aspect of Awuzie’s game is the fact that he can be used on the outside, or can be played in the slot position. I look forward to watching him at the combine to see how he runs, because his recover speed is one of my few concerns.

Recap

This draft class is one of the most important ones in the last 10 years. The reason being is how close the team is to being able to win the Super Bowl, yet lacking the cap space to make push in Free Agency. If Jerry Jones and company are able to get two or three impact players, and Jaylon Smith becomes healthy… watch out for the Dallas Cowboys next season folks.
