Not only is his name fun to say, but Chidobe Awuzie can straight out ball. He took a struggling Colorado defense and made them good. He was the heart and soul of that defense. Awuzie set several records at Colorado as he played all 4 years. He also is pretty good size for an NFL corner, standing a 6’0” and weighing 195 lbs. He also finished in the top 10 of many all-time Pac 12 Conference records.
In his 4 years at Colorado, Awuzie totaled 265 tackles (212 solo, 53 assisted), 25 tackles for a loss, 9 sacks, 3 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles, and 3 fumbles recovered. His numbers are absolutely staggering. To be honest, I did not have a clue who this kid was until we drafted him and now I’m wondering how he slid so far. A team leader in almost all of those categories and a 4 year starter. Chidobe’s 212 solo tackles ranks his 5th all-time in Pac-12 history. He also ranks 6th in the Pac 12 with 25 career passes defended. I know many of you are wondering why his interceptions are so low. The simple answer is they just didn’t throw his way that often because he is such a good cover corner. There’s also rumors that he can play safety too. All I know is Chidobe Awuzie seems like a great pick to me and he should make an impact wherever he plays for the Dallas Cowboys.
